Best-rated broker

Based on in-depth user-review research, Trade Republic has the best reviews of the six brokers Austrians use most: 4.6 out of 5 from 65,247 Trustpilot reviews. Bitpanda follows at 4.1. Both invite every customer to review. Among brokers that do not, Scalable Capital (3.9) and flatex (3.8) lead, and DADAT trails at 2.0 from 125 reviews.

Which Brokers in Austria Have the Best User Reviews?

The table below ranks the leading brokers in Austria by user sentiment score: the Trustpilot TrustScore out of 5, read on 14 October 2026.

Source: User review research, October 2026, based on each broker's public Trustpilot company page (94,714 reviews in total).

Trade Republic leads with 4.6, ahead of Bitpanda at 4.1 and Scalable Capital at 3.9. flatex follows at 3.8, Interactive Brokers at 3.1 and DADAT at 2.0. These are the seven brokers ranked on our best brokers page, minus Erste, which has no broker-specific review profile.

We used one method for every broker so the numbers compare: the public Trustpilot company page, all read on 14 October 2026. The flatex.at and DADAT profiles are Austrian. The other four are international, so most of their reviewers live elsewhere in Europe. The TrustScore also weights recent reviews more heavily, which is why it can differ from a plain star average.

Why is Erste Bank not ranked?

Erste Bank und Sparkasse has one Trustpilot page for the whole bank: 1.6 out of 5 from 535 reviews, unclaimed and uninvited. None of those reviews mentions the Selfinvest depot or securities trading. They are about branch service, phone waits and transfers. Ranking that score against broker profiles would measure the wrong product, so we leave it out.

What Do Users Say Is Good and Bad About Brokers in Austria?

Across six brokers and 94,714 reviews, praise is about the app and the account opening. Criticism is about what happens when something goes wrong: reaching a person, identity checks and account closures. Almost no review at any broker complains about trading costs, apart from crypto spreads at Bitpanda.

That split matters when you choose. The cheapest neobrokers win on the first day, the day you open the account. The reviews show where they lose: the day an order fails, a transfer stalls or a tax report is wrong, and you need someone who answers.

What Does Each Broker Score and Why?

Each card shows the TrustScore, a summary of what reviewers report, and the top positives and negatives. Themes come from reviews dated 2022 to October 2026 and from incidents sourced on our broker ranking.

Trade Republic

4.6 / 5 sentiment

The highest score and by far the largest review base, half of it written in the last 12 months. Trade Republic invites every customer to review, which lifts volume and the five-star share. The 12% one-star tail is about reaching a person, identity checks and missing joint accounts, and the company replies to only 13% of those reviews.

Top positives

  • Simple app, the most repeated praise in October 2026
  • Interest on the cash balance
  • Low trading commissions
  • 24/7 support introduced in April 2026

Top negatives

  • Hard to reach a human agent
  • Proof-of-address and face-ID checks rejected
  • No joint account or second card for a partner
  • Login outage of about one hour on 18 March 2026
  • Austrian tax report errors reported in 2025

Bitpanda

4.1 / 5 sentiment

The Vienna company answers almost every negative review, 99% of them within a week, and that shows in what reviewers praise: support that comes back. The 17% one-star share is the second highest of the invited profiles, driven by blocked withdrawals and the cost of crypto spreads that only shows on the first sale.

Top positives

  • Support replies quickly and in person
  • Austrian company under FMA supervision
  • Clean, simple interface
  • Crypto and securities in one steuereinfach app

Top negatives

  • Withdrawals and deposits held for review
  • Crypto positions start below cost because of the spread
  • Replies in German to English messages

Scalable Capital

3.9 / 5 sentiment

The best score among brokers that do not ask for reviews, so these ratings arrive unprompted. Reviewers like the app and ETF investing, and one says service improved after the move to Scalable's own banking setup. Against that, August 2026 brought a cluster of account terminations without a stated reason, and 24% of all reviews are one star.

Top positives

  • Feature-rich app that works
  • Simple ETF investing
  • Service more responsive since the infrastructure move

Top negatives

  • Account terminations without explanation, August 2026
  • Support hard to reach, no person to talk to
  • Address checks rejected during sign-up
  • Austrian KESt withholding unconfirmed as of August 2026

flatex

3.8 / 5 sentiment

This is the Austrian flatex.at profile, run from Graz, not DEGIRO. Its ratings are unprompted and mostly older: only 151 of 1,241 reviews are from the last 12 months. Praise centres on fast account opening and a usable platform. The complaints that recur from 2022 to 2026 are email support that takes weeks to answer and closures without warning.

Top positives

  • Fast, easy account opening
  • User-friendly platform and app
  • Helpful staff during document checks
  • Austrian branch in Graz

Top negatives

  • Email support slow, weeks without reply (2022 to 2026)
  • Account closed without warning, August 2026
  • Onboarding app did not work, September 2026

Interactive Brokers

3.1 / 5 sentiment

The lowest score of the brokers that invite reviews, which means even prompted customers are split: 58% give four or five stars, 34% give one or two. Reviewers value the margin rates and market access. Complaints in October 2026 are about support replies taking up to 10 days, withdrawals taking weeks, and an interface reviewers call overly complex.

Top positives

  • Competitive margin rates
  • Fast funding and a clear account overview
  • Patient support once you reach it

Top negatives

  • Support replies take up to 10 days
  • Withdrawals and transfers take weeks
  • Interface overly complex
  • No Austrian tax report, every figure is yours to file

DADAT Bank

2.0 / 5 sentiment

The lowest score here, from the smallest sample: 125 reviews, 35 in the last 12 months, none invited. Read the text and the picture changes. Many one-star reviewers praise DADAT's conditions and phone support, then mark it down for crashing apps, failed logins and ID Austria sign-ups that stall. It is a technology complaint, not a cost or tax one.

Top positives

  • Good conditions, praised even in low ratings
  • Phone support praised in March and April 2026
  • Replies to 70% of negative reviews within a week
  • Austrian bank under FMA supervision

Top negatives

  • App crashes and failed logins
  • Three separate apps for banking and trading
  • Online sign-up stalls at the ID Austria step
  • Fees kept running on an unused old depot, July 2026

What residents report

  • ○ Trade Republic KESt report: Users confirmed that Trade Republic has withheld Austrian KESt since about late April 2025, which makes older advice to file everything yourself out of date, but warned that the annual tax report has occasionally been wrong and should be checked. How Far Can You Trust a Broker's Review Score?

Review signals per broker, read from each Trustpilot company page on 14 October 2026. Net score is our calculation: the share of four- and five-star reviews minus the share of one- and two-star reviews, in percentage points, from Trustpilot's rounded distribution. flatex's profile says it has not replied to negative reviews, yet replies appear under several, so we leave that field open.

Interactive Brokers5,528885 (16%)+24Yes87%, over 1 month
DADAT Bank12535 (28%)-44No70%, within 1 week

A review score is only as good as the way it was collected. Trade Republic, Bitpanda and Interactive Brokers invite customers to review, which brings in satisfied customers who would never write unprompted. Scalable Capital, flatex and DADAT do not, so their reviews skew towards people with a problem. Compare within each group, not across them.

On that reading, Scalable Capital and flatex do well: unprompted scores of 3.9 and 3.8. Interactive Brokers does badly, because even invited customers give a net score of only +24. And flatex outscores Scalable on net score, +51 against +33, because its one-star share, 16%, is smaller than Scalable's 24%.

Recency is the third check. Half of Trade Republic's reviews come from the last 12 months. At flatex it is only 12%, so its score mostly describes the broker of 2021 to 2024. The reply rate shows who reads complaints: Bitpanda answers 99%, Trade Republic 13%.

What Do Unhappy Broker Customers Complain About Most?

Our read of the 20 most recent DADAT reviews on Trustpilot, posted 7 March to 12 October 2026, read 14 October 2026. One review can carry several themes, so the counts do not add up to 20.
ThemeReviews of 20Tone
App crashes, failed logins, three separate apps8Complaint
Support unreachable or unhelpful7Complaint
Online sign-up failed, mostly at ID Austria4Complaint
Fees or terms on old depots2Complaint
Praise for conditions or low fees5Praise
Praise for phone or branch support4Praise

Broker complaints fall into three groups at every provider: reaching a person, identity and account checks, and technical failures. Costs barely appear. The tally above shows the pattern at its sharpest. DADAT has the lowest score, yet 5 of 20 recent reviewers praise its conditions, several of them while giving one or two stars.

The account-check complaints have a regulatory cause. Brokers must verify identity and address under anti-money-laundering rules, and an automated check that rejects a valid document reads as a broken app. Trade Republic and Scalable Capital drew those complaints in 2026; at DADAT the sticking point is the ID Austria step.

Closures without a stated reason are the most serious group. Scalable Capital drew a cluster of them in August 2026, and flatex one the same month. A broker may end the relationship, but securities held in custody remain your property and move to a depot you name.

Where Can You Escalate a Broker Complaint in Austria?

Complain to the broker in writing first, with dates and screenshots. If that fails, the route depends on the licence. DADAT and Erste are Austrian banks under the FMA complaints office. flatex, Trade Republic and Scalable Capital answer to the German BaFin.

For disputes with an Austrian bank, the Gemeinsame Schlichtungsstelle der Österreichischen Kreditwirtschaft mediates free of charge, once you have tried the bank directly. Interactive Brokers serves Austrian clients from Ireland, supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland. The FMA and BaFin supervise the firms but do not rule on individual compensation claims.

How Should You Pick a Broker by Its Reviews?

  • You want the app most people are happy with: Trade Republic (4.6) has the strongest review base, but expect slow replies if something goes wrong.
  • You want support that answers: Bitpanda (4.1) replies to 99% of complaints within a week. For phone support from an Austrian bank, reviewers praise DADAT, despite its apps.
  • You trust unprompted reviews more: Scalable Capital (3.9) and flatex (3.8) score best among brokers that do not invite reviews.
  • You trade actively on global markets: Interactive Brokers (3.1) wins on features, and reviewers warn about slow support and a complex interface.
  • You care most about Austrian tax handling: reviews do not answer that. Use the steuereinfach table on our broker ranking.

Broker Reviews in Austria: Frequently Asked Questions

Which broker in Austria has the best user reviews in 2026?

Trade Republic, with a Trustpilot TrustScore of 4.6 out of 5 from 65,247 reviews as of 14 October 2026. Bitpanda follows at 4.1 and Scalable Capital at 3.9. Trade Republic and Bitpanda both invite every customer to review. Among brokers that do not invite reviews, Scalable Capital (3.9) and flatex (3.8) lead.

Why does DADAT have such a low Trustpilot score?

DADAT scores 2.0 out of 5 from only 125 reviews, 35 of them in the last 12 months, and it does not invite customers to review. In our read of its 20 most recent reviews, 8 complain about the app and logins, 7 about support and 4 about online sign-up at the ID Austria step. Five of the same 20 praise its conditions or fees.

Which broker answers complaints fastest?

Bitpanda replied to 99% of its negative Trustpilot reviews, typically within a week, as of 14 October 2026. DADAT replied to 70% within a week and Scalable Capital to 77% within two weeks. Interactive Brokers replied to 87% and Trade Republic to 13%, both typically taking over a month.

Are Trustpilot scores for brokers reliable?

Only with two checks. First, see whether the company invites reviews: Trade Republic, Bitpanda and Interactive Brokers do, which raises volume and the five-star share. Second, read the one-star themes, because a low score can be about apps rather than costs or tax. The scores are global, not Austria-only, except for the flatex.at and DADAT profiles.

Where do I complain if my broker ignores me?

Complain in writing to the broker first. If it does not resolve the issue, Austrian banks such as DADAT and Erste fall under the FMA and the free Gemeinsame Schlichtungsstelle der Österreichischen Kreditwirtschaft. flatex, Trade Republic and Scalable Capital are supervised by the German BaFin, and Interactive Brokers Ireland by the Central Bank of Ireland.
