Summary
- Cheapest overall: spusu 2000 at EUR 4.90/month for 2 GB.
- Best value per GB: Drei up Under27 unlimited at EUR 0.07 per GB.
- Largest capped allowance: yesss! 200 GB for EUR 19.99/month. Unlimited starts at EUR 14.90.
- Best coverage: anything on the A1 network, which includes yesss!, bob, and eety at MVNO prices.
- Curated picks instead of the full list: best SIM cards in Austria.
How should you read this SIM card overview?
Read it in two passes. First pick the metric that decides your purchase, then read the winning row. If your bill matters most, sort by Cheapest and stop at spusu 2000, EUR 4.90. If you stream and tether, sort by Most data or Best EUR per GB, where LIDL Connect Tarif L delivers 100 GB for EUR 9.50. If you live outside a city, sort by Best coverage, which surfaces the A1 network and its cheaper resellers.
Two columns need a caveat. EUR per GB values unlimited tariffs at 200 GB, because dividing by an uncapped allowance would let every unlimited plan win automatically. And Network is the physical network, not the brand: yesss!, bob, and eety all ride A1, HoT and Lycamobile ride Magenta, and spusu plus LIDL Connect ride Drei. Coverage follows the network, so an MVNO gives you the same signal as its host at a lower price, with slower customer support.
Prices are the monthly figures as advertised in July and August 2026. Some providers bill per 30 days or per 4 weeks rather than per calendar month, which is 13 payments a year instead of 12, so the validity column is part of the price. Always confirm the current figure on the provider site before you buy, and check the SIM card price research page for how these bands have moved.

Frequently asked questions about Austrian SIM packages
What is the cheapest SIM package in Austria in 2026?
The cheapest monthly SIM package in Austria is spusu 2000 at EUR 4.90 a month for 2 GB of data on the Drei network, with unused data rolling over to the next month. HoT 10 GB is the cheapest package with a large allowance at EUR 5.90 for 10 GB, and eety basic matches EUR 5.90 for 4 GB on A1 coverage. All three are prepaid, so none of them runs a credit check or ties you to a contract.
Which Austrian SIM package gives the most data?
Among capped tariffs, yesss! 200 GB gives the largest allowance at EUR 19.99 a month on the A1 network. LIDL Connect Tarif L is the cheapest big-data pack at 100 GB for EUR 9.50 per 30 days, and yesss! 100 GB matches that allowance for EUR 9.99. For genuinely uncapped data, Drei up Under27 unlimited is EUR 14.90 for under-27s, bob Flex unlimited is EUR 18.90 with no contract, and Magenta unlimited SIM-only is EUR 29.90 on a 12-month contract.
What does EUR per GB tell you when comparing SIM cards?
EUR per GB divides the monthly price by the data allowance, so it exposes tariffs that look cheap but ration data. spusu 2000 at EUR 4.90 works out at EUR 2.45 per GB, while LIDL Connect Tarif L at EUR 9.50 costs EUR 0.10 per GB. The metric only helps if you actually use the allowance: paying EUR 9.50 for 100 GB is worse value than EUR 4.90 for 2 GB if you never pass 2 GB. Unlimited tariffs are valued at 200 GB in the table so they cannot win by dividing by infinity.
Do all Austrian SIM cards need registration?
Yes. Since 2019 every Austrian SIM card must be registered to a named person with a passport or national ID before it will carry traffic, prepaid Wertkarten included. You do not need a Meldezettel or an Austrian address for a prepaid SIM, which is why newcomers can buy one on arrival, but contract tariffs such as A1 Basis, Magenta unlimited, and the Drei up plans do require an Austrian address and a credit check.
Can you keep your number when switching Austrian SIM packages?
Yes. Number portability is a legal right under TKG 2021, and it applies between prepaid providers too. Ask your new provider to start the port, not your old one, and quote the Rufnummernmitnahme process. The port itself typically completes within one working day, and providers may charge a small administrative fee. Your old tariff ends when the port completes, so cancel nothing in advance.
